Frequently Asked Questions

Please reach us at enquiry@yeolderockinn.com if you cannot find an answer to your question below, allow for a 24 hour reply time as our inbox is checked once per day. Questions below are in order of their popularity in being asked

We are a family owned free house, meaning we are completely free of tie to any brewery or group. Edward & Amie welcome you to their village pub... We offer home made food including all our desserts using locally sourced produce. Here table service is standard for both indoors & outside diners. If you want a table in or out for food please check in at the reception/ host desk upon arrival, for drinks only please visit the bar as and when you wish

Yes, we have two bar areas, both of these areas as well as the separate Hikers Snug room are dog friendly. If you wish to have your four legged friend on the seats then please bring a clean blanket otherwise they must stay on the floor

We open our doors at 12pm Wednesday to Sunday. Food is served all day with last bookings at 8pm Wednesday to Saturday & 6.30pm on Sundays. We are also open on Tuesdays during the summer holidays

Yes, you can either call us directly on 01538 300324 or make a reservation through our website, just click the 'BOOK A TABLE' button at the top. Friday evening & weekend booking is strongly advised

Yes you can but benches cannot be booked, they are offered on a first come first serve basis. We advise booking a table as normal (this guarantees you a table inside) if the weather is good and there's a spare outdoor bench then you can choose to sit outside upon arrival. We offer table service with tabs to all tables inside and out

For tables between 7-12 these can be offered weekdays only and are subject to a preorder from our normal menu. For Group bookings over 12 and up to 40 we can offer a dedicated cut back menu which can be viewed under the 'Events & Group Hosting' page. The largest table we now accept at the weekends is for 6 people without exception. Why? A combination of a small team of people in a busy place makes larger tables harder to do so now we simply avoid anything over 6 at the weekends which has held us in good stead in 2026

Yes we are, simply turn up and park on our front carpark, across the road from the pub, staying here is free, however, we do ask that you use the pub for drinks or food for each day you plan on staying. You don't have to book your motorhome in but we do advise booking a table for food especially if you plan on staying a Friday night or weekend. Toilet access is strictly during our opening hours. We don't currently offer electrical hook-up

We NEVER put a service charge on your bill, here we strongly believe it should be your choice as a customer should you wish to add anything. Both cash & card tips are accepted... Our card machine will display a screen allowing you to add gratuity should you wish to. 100% of tips go to staff & these are equally shared between all team members working both front of house & kitchen. Please note that card tips are taxed accordingly.

So the Roaches are a popular walking, hiking & climbing destination, indeed we are the closest food and drink venue. If you walk from our pub then you are roughly 20-25 minutes away from the foot of the Roaches depending on how fast you walk. You can park nearer but parking is limited & sometimes restricted, don't park on the grass verge or block access to any farms, many people have been fined by the council for doing this who patrol the area daily.

So as of January 2026 it is our understanding that the tearooms has permanently closed. The Rock Inn is the closest hospitality venue to the Roaches. From Autumn 26 onwards we shall be offering freshly made cake on our bar besides tea & freshly ground coffee. We also offer home made desserts & lunchtime sandwiches besides our full menu. A reminder that we open at 12pm & not before, our toilets are only accessible when the pub is OPEN

We accept all Visa & Mastercard Credit & Debit cards, American Express as well as cash payments. We do however ask that you be sensible with cash, i.e. don't use a £20 note to buy a bag of crisps as change is increasingly harder to come by & we have to pay to swap change at the bank

Yes we have a dedicated DOC-M compliant disabled washroom which also features a baby changing unit. For disabled people in wheelchairs we advise parking on our rear carpark in the dedicated disabled bays, this gives straightforward easy access to the pub via the rear entrance which is on one level. We do advise phoning or submitting a note with any online booking if you require a table with wheelchair access just so we know to expect you.

Certainly, drinkers are always welcome, if you see a table with just beer mats on that usually means we have kept it free for drinkers, these tables are always located around the bar areas. You can also sit at the bar. Please don't sit at a table pre-set for dining without speaking with a member of staff first, if it isn't booked & there are no other tables available we will unset it for you.

PLEASE GIVE US A CALL OR EMAIL prior to your visit & we can let you know what items might be compatible for you. Our kitchen is small & a downside of having an old listed building is we cannot expand our kitchen area the way we would have liked during our refurbishment.

We can show free to air sport on our Hikers Bar TV which usually shows the latest news. We do NOT show anything on SKY TV.

Our hikers bar features a TV for free to air news & sport. A Pool table which takes a £1 coin per game (we advise bringing change, we can swap coins and small notes for £1 coins at the bar in limited amounts, sadly this CANNOT be done via card due to tax reasons). We also have a BLADE 6 darts board which is free to use but you must bring your own darts.

Yes feel free to bring them. If you wish waiting on staff to bring the cake out with candles lit we do ask that you bring the candles with you & make it clear to staff as to when you wish the cake to come out, many people forget to say and staff often have to guess. Unlike many places we don't charge nor do we stop you from eating the cake on the premises.

All pubs have different running costs & you shouldn't really compare place A to place B simply based on the advertised menu price alone....

Perhaps the other pub serves bought in reheated food, tight portions or uses cheaper & lower quality ingredients, here we don't skimp or compromise on the produce we use but as a result you pay slightly more because our costs are higher, that isn't to say we do anything better than anywhere else. If you are after a cheap place to fill your belly then there are better suited venues locally.

To give you three extra examples from a business perspective as to why we charge slightly more than some of our competition; our pub is listed, listed building insurance is several times as expensive as regular business insurance amounting to thousands of pounds extra per year. We also embarked on a total refurbishment a couple of years ago, not a cheap process and not something any other venue locally has done, this has to be paid for over time and lastly being slightly off the main road has us at a natural disadvantage so we don't do the same throughput as other pubs that may be located on the main road or on a natural walking trail.  If you appreciate home made food & don't mind paying a little extra for it then we believe you will enjoy visiting our village pub & we will be grateful of your custom & support
